Invitation to Participate in Research about Medical Notes for Excused School Absences

You are invited to participate in a research study for school personnel in the state of Wisconsin. This study is being conducted by Dr. Carolyn Sleeth, MD, MPH, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. You must be a school administrator (superintendent, director of student services, principal, assistant principal, attendance officer) or school healthcare provider (RN, LPN, NP, PA) at a school educating children between kindergarten and the end of high school in the state of Wisconsin to participate.

The research team is conducting a study about how schools use excuse notes for students for medically-related school absences. This topic is increasing in importance due both to the growing number of children who are chronically absent from school and the large burden of asynchronous work for healthcare providers.

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to take part in a brief interview. Interviews will be individual, semi-structured, and done via a secure online video platform. We expect each interview to last about 30 minutes. You will be compensated with a $30.00 gift card for your participation.

If you are interested in learning more about or participating in this study, please contact the principal investigator, Dr. Carolyn Sleeth, at [email protected].
