This workshop will walk participants through the research and theory, and provide realtime practice with the strategies used to support students in grade-level text. This learning complements WI Act 20 literacy initiatives and will inform your team on how this can be implemented at the secondary level. Our facilitator is a current WI educator and a National Consultant. He has worked with numerous districts, leaders, and educators across the country to facilitate this learning.

Who should attend?: Principals, Literacy Coaches, Teacher Leaders, English/Literacy Teachers, Content Area Teachers

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the effects on literacy growth and achievement when students have routine access to grade-level (or higher) text.
  • Examine research-based, proven strategies for engaging struggling readers in grade-level, complex text.
  • Engage in realtime practice with instructional strategies to support students reading grade-level, complex text.
  • Investigate the components of text complexity and the appropriate scaffolds that support readers and close achievement gaps.

Leading Objectives:

  • Become empowered with the research, theory, and practice to establish your why and shift building wide literacy practices.
  • Manage building wide implementation and the change process of effective literacy practices.
  • Maximize literary growth and achievement for all students.

Additional Notes: Participants are encouraged to bring text they use with students for meaningful practice and application with their current curriculum.
