Virtual Legal Seminar

This virtual seminar is designed to inform principals at all levels of legal issues most commonly at stake in the COVID era. Attorneys Malina Piontek, Jina Jonen, Melissa Thiel Collar, and Bob Butler will lead an interactive discussion on COVID era implications for free speech, copyright, staffing, and student discipline. 

In addition, participants are encouraged to submit questions for our attorneys with their registration so that the program reflects the fields most pressing issues.

Speakers:

Malina Piontek, AWSA Retained Attorney
Malinas law practice has, for over 20 years, focused on public education, employment and labor law. This unique combination of practice areas give her an appreciation for both the common and uncommon legal issues faced in the modern workplace.

Jina Jonen, Legal Counsel and Human Resources Director, Oregon School District
Jina has been with the Oregon School District since 2012. Her education includes a Law Degree from UW-Madison, and a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and Psychology from UW-Madison.

Melissa Thiel Collar, Legal Counsel, Green Bay Area Public School District
Melissa Thiel Collar serves as Legal Counsel for the Green Bay Area Public School District where she partners with District and school staff to address the diverse needs of students and families by balancing legal requirements with the needs of students and families.

Bob Butler, WASB Associate Executive Director, and Staff Counsel
Bob Butler has been a WASB staff counsel since 1990. He is an associate executive director of the WASB. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School and received his undergraduate degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University.
