2024 Title IX Regulations: What Do Principals Need to Know?

On April 19, 2024, the Department of Education released its Final Rule setting forth updated Title IX regulations that prohibit sex-based discrimination and harassment in any schools that receive federal funding. The new regulations take effect August 1, 2024. The following changes will be important for principals to know upon implementation of the new Title IX regulations to help ensure that all students and staff have equal access to education programs and activities. Read more here.


2023-24 Enacted Legislation Impacting Schools

On May 16, 2024, DPI released a summary of state legislation enacted for the 2023-24 legislative session.  The DPI summary includes a brief description of each bill, links to statutory texts and explanatory memos.  Vetoed bills are also included in the DPI summary.  Below is a brief recap of some of the highlights of the 2023-24 legislative session.  It is not exhaustive but intended to give you a “quick read” overview of new laws, and to encourage you to take a deeper dive into the excellent resources available on all of these laws. Read more here.

Prioritizing Chronic Absenteeism: 4 Actions You Can Take in May

At this point in the school year, you may feel a small sense of dread when looking at your attendance reports. Students have had enough time to rack up any number of absences, excused or not. While you may have a strong urge to stuff the reports under your office rug and simply hope the school year ends as soon as possible, there is another way. May is the perfect time of year to take a few actions towards improving where your school will be in terms of absenteeism numbers at this time next year.
