Act 20 Leadership Training Opportunity for AWSA Members

As elementary leaders across Wisconsin continue to implement 2023 Wisconsin Act 20, driving systemic change in early reading instruction remains a central priority. Under Act 20, all school principals serving grades 5K–3 and district reading specialists must complete approved professional development in science-based early literacy instruction. This required leadership training is designed to equip administrative teams with the systems, knowledge, and practical tools necessary to guide staff through explicit, systematic literacy instruction.

Proposed 2026-27 Cohort Opportunity
AWSA is exploring a partnership with CESA 6 to offer an approved, synchronous virtual training program during the 2026–27 school year for 5K–3 principals and reading specialists who have not yet fulfilled this mandate.

  • Format: Virtual via Zoom over six total days (spaced out over several weeks, not consecutive days).
  • Cost: CESA 6 currently offers this 6-day program for $1,500 per participant. By hosting this cohort directly through AWSA, we aim to reduce per-participant costs based on total enrollment.
