AWSA Update

Your Voice in Charting AWSA’s Future

By Mike Roemer, AWSA Board President and Principal of Reagan High School, Milwaukee

The AWSA Board of Directors is currently reviewing our organizational goals or “Ends Statements,” which is something the organization does every five years.  Please provide your input on the future of AWSA by completing the Membership Satisfaction Survey that was emailed to you yesterday (click here if you need a link to the survey).  The survey results will fuel the Board’s work to chart the association’s future goals and our staff’s continuous improvement efforts.  As we recognize National Principals Month, please invest a few minutes in the future of the association of school leaders for school leaders.

DPI Not Supporting Statewide Support for School Leaders

Last September, AWSA alerted members about the DPI not supporting statewide in-depth professional learning and coaching support as it has done in the past.  The alert asked members to contact the State Superintendent to support the AWSA Board of Directors’ request to fund this important work. The Department opened a new grant round for 2023-24 that was due last February, and AWSA submitted an application.  The DPI recently notified AWSA that no application will be funded for 2022-24.  It is deeply disappointing that the current administration has not provided any support for statewide, research-based support for school leaders.  AWSA will look to the philanthropic community and other sources to ensure that every school leader in the State has affordable access to high-quality professional learning and coaching support.
