AWSA Update

Mourning Our Colleague Dan Marburger

As you are likely aware, there was an incident of school violence earlier this month at Perry High School in Central Iowa. In addition to a sixth-grade student, Dan Marburger, the school's principal, passed away from injuries he sustained. Mr. Marburger's heroic actions prevented additional loss of life.

With a local bank, the Perry Community School District has established a deposit account to receive donations for the victims. If you are interested in taking part, donations can be sent here.

AWSA will be making a donation to the fund on behalf of our members as we express our deepest sympathy to Mr. Marburger's family, friends, students, colleagues, and the entire Perry community.

Honoring Senator Kohl

Wisconsin educators lost one of their biggest advocates and supporters when Senator Herb Kohl passed away on December 27th.  AWSA joined with WEAC, WASDA, and WASB to recognize Senator Kohl’s life of service by providing a posthumous award on the day of his memorial service (January 12, 2024). Read more here.
