Seclusion and Restraint Reports Due by October 1

It’s back-to-school time when summer school and fall planning give way to a fresh new school year.  Each year brings with it the opportunity and obligation to post annual notices and prepare reports.  Each school in the district must complete the Seclusion and Restraint Report by October 1 of each year.  This report is one of those requirements that can easily get lost in the excitement that the fall brings. Read more.


2023 Wisconsin ACT 20: Preparing Principals for the 2024-2025 School Year

2023 Wisconsin Act 20 (“Act 20”) was enacted on July 19, 2023, as 2023 Assembly Bill 321. Act 20, also known as the “Right to Read Act,” codified a new literacy assessment system, which is effective for the 2024-2025 school year. Act 20 aims to enhance literacy outcomes by reforming early literacy education standards in Wisconsin. The Act's provisions apply to all students in grades 4K through grade 3, to allow students to achieve foundational literacy skills at an early age. Read more here.

  • High School & Middle School Convention: February 5-7, 2025, Hilton City Center, Milwaukee

Registration will open for both conferences in October.


Nominate an Outstanding Associate Principal Today

Nominations for the State Associate Principal of the Year Award are being accepted.  Nominations are now open and can be made by administrators, teachers, or other community members. Help AWSA recognize outstanding leadership by nominating an exemplary associate principal today! Nominations are due by Friday, October 11, 2024 and then applications must be submitted by Friday, October 18, 2024. Learn more here.


Principal Leadership Award Nominations Are Now Open

Nominations of Wisconsin PK-12 principals can now be submitted online at KohlEducation.org for the 2025 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Principal Leadership awards. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, October 3, 2024 at 5 p.m. central time. Awards are $6,000, with an additional $6,000 grant going to the school of each selected principal. Click here to learn more.   


Elementary Principals’ Convention- Register Today!

Join your peers from throughout the state at the Elementary Principals’ Convention in Elkhart Lake October 9-11.  The Convention will feature sessions by Douglas Reeves, Josh Varner, WI school exemplars, and AWSA thought leaders. Register today!

WASDA, AWSA, CESA Statewide Network, and WCER Join Forces To Support School Cultures of Excellence

The CESA Statewide Network, Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA), and the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA), in partnership with the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research (WCER), are working collaboratively to provide a conference highlighting the leadership practices essential to building continuous improvement at the school and district levels that will feature sessions by Wisconsin school and district exemplars. The inaugural Creating a Culture of Excellence for All Conference will take place in Green Bay on June 25-27, 2025. Read more here.

Assistant Principal of the Year Nominations Now Open

The Wisconsin Associate Principal of the Year program recognizes Associate Principals whose leadership has resulted in improved student learning, instructional collaboration, and a safe and positive school environment. Nominations are accepted from teachers, parents, principals, and others across Wisconsin. Starting with the 2024-25 selection cycle, NASSP will now honor an Associate Principal of the year at both the middle school and high school level. Learn more here.
