Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance Names Shari Hougan Principal of the Year

Riverdale School District is excited to announce that the winner of this year’s WiRSA Principal of the Year is Mrs. Shari Hougan, our PK-6 principal.  Mrs. Hougan has been a true leader in the Riverdale School District since 1994, when she joined the staff as a school counselor. Since then, she has served as Assistant Principal for the Elementary/Middle School for six years and has been the Elementary Principal since 2009. She has exemplified the importance of commitment and dedication to the students, families, staff and community while in each of these positions. She never stops learning and looking for ways to help our students, staff, and school grow and succeed. She currently serves on the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators Board of Directors as well. Mrs. Hougan is the face of Riverdale Elementary and is readily available at school for parents, staff, and students but also can be found supporting various community events through the year. Riverdale is lucky to have her as a vital member of the leadership team!

Rural educators throughout Wisconsin have nominated their peers to be recognized by the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance (WiRSA), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping address the issues of rural school districts. These awards focus statewide attention on individuals, organizations, or businesses who have made outstanding contributions to their rural school district, community, and students.

The winners of these awards will be announced at a luncheon on Monday, October 23rd, at the Rural Schools Conference. This year’s conference theme is Rural Schools and Communities - Stronger Together! The conference is open to school administrators, board members, teachers, CESA employees, high education professionals, public library administrators, elected officials, and citizens interested in rural school and community issues.
