Legislative Update on 2025-27 State Budget and More

The Wisconsin Legislature commenced its 90th legislative session with an inauguration on January 6, 2025. Later last month, Governor Evers delivered the State of the State address, proclaiming 2025 as “The Year of the Kid.” As part of his address, he previewed key priorities for his 2025–27 state budget, which is set to be introduced on February 18, 2025. Among those priorities is a substantial investment in student mental health.

Following the Governor’s budget introduction, the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) will begin its review. In past years, JFC has held agency briefings approximately 4–6 weeks after the budget's introduction. After these briefings, the committee typically conducts 4–6 public hearings across the state before returning to the Capitol to begin deliberations in executive session. The goal remains to finalize the budget by July 1. The SAA will continue to keep members informed on opportunities to engage policymakers around shared budget priorities.
