By Brian Nicol, Partner, Donovan Group

Effective school leaders engage their communities in meaningful ways to promote student success. AWSA provides crisis response support and proactive communication tools and templates that support effective communication and engagement through its partnership with the Donovan Group, a Wisconsin-based communications firm exclusively serving public schools.

Below is a list of services available to AWSA members:

Crisis Communications: When unexpected events impact a school, one of the most important aspects of leading is knowing what to communicate, along with when, to whom, and how. The Donovan Group supports Wisconsin school leaders with 24/7/365 urgent and crisis communications support on issues related to personnel matters, media requests, student or staff deaths, local law enforcement investigations involving the schools, fire or weather damage impacting learning spaces, student protests, and more.

Communication Tools: Are you maximizing your website, social media, and other communication tools to engage key stakeholders in support of your students? AWSA maintains tools that will help you assess your communication strengths and help identify areas of growth.

Communication Templates
: Working with the Donovan Group, AWSA monitors statewide and national issues affecting schools and provides templates for school leaders to use in communicating with their students, parents, staff, and communities. Recent examples include, but are not limited to, templates for swatting, unsafe smartphone applications (apps), and book challenges.
