An Update from School Administrators Alliance (SAA)

As students return to classrooms this fall, legislators have also returned to the Capitol to set their policy priorities for the remainder of the two-year session, which will conclude early next year.

Education is a key focus. While no specific bills have been introduced yet, areas of interest include:

  • Statewide behavior and discipline standards
  • School district shared services and consolidation
  • Math readiness initiatives

The Speaker has also launched four new task forces, including the Task Force on Protecting Children (Chair: Rep. Lindee Brill, R–Sheboygan Falls), which will examine youth mental health and the impacts of social media—issues expected to involve K-12 schools.

With limited time left and little likelihood of agreement between the Legislature and the Governor, it is unlikely these proposals will become law this session. Still, they will attract attention, making it important to highlight the ongoing work of school leaders to improve student outcomes, tackle workforce challenges, and ensure student safety every day.

SAA will keep members updated if proposals gain traction. Please be sure you are subscribed to SAA Email Updates and check the SAA website regularly. Contact us if you need access.
