Chronic Absenteeism reduction, as defined by the State, has been an over-the-years concern. De Forest School District continues to improve our communication to our families every year as we talk about the importance (academically, socially, and emotionally) of regular attendance as we know habits start at the levels below high school and with siblings being in, potentially, four different buildings in our district, consistent messaging is vital. Read more here.

Specially Designed Instruction in Inclusive School Settings

AWSA Hiring New Director of Professional Learning and Member Services

As AWSA’s work supporting school leaders' professional growth continues to expand, the association will be hiring a Director of Professional Learning and Member Services. The position announcement outlines the qualifications and application process and timeline.  We encourage successful leaders with a passion for professional learning and support to join our impactful, collaborative, and responsive staff team.


AWSA’s Future Work with Our National Affiliates

Since its inception in 1978, AWSA has been a proud state affiliate of both national associations. While NAESP and NASSP have specific groups of school leaders they serve (K-8 for NAESP & 6-12 for NASSP), there is much of their work that overlaps. AWSA has invited both NAESP and NASSP to reply to a request for information about the possibility of serving as the sole PK-12 national affiliate for Wisconsin school leaders in the future. Read more here.


Legislative Update AB 196/SB 170

One bill with broad, bipartisan support is currently stalled in committee. With limited session days remaining, it is critical that Assembly Bill 196 / Senate Bill 170 – Rehired Annuitants advance to clear both committees so it can hopefully reach the Governor’s desk. Read more here.
